Reporting Philosophy
The foundation of great reporting is great listening. It involves connecting with others on an emotional level to empower sources to open up. It also requires persistence. I believe in holding the powerful accountable. While empathetic, I'm also aggressive and known to ask the tough questions. I center my stories around memorable people and boil down complex issues in an easy-to-understand manner. I land enterprise stories by truly immersing myself in my community and am equally at home with breaking news, politics, features and consumer reports.
"Jane to Julia" was an award-winning exclusive interview with the children of a murdered woman who was finally identified after 25 years as a Jane Doe.
Part 1 of my Emmy-nominated investigate report into the predatory practices of some for-profit higher education institutions and the Wisconsin budgetary loophole that would have eliminated state regulation of such colleges.
An example of my day-turn MMJ work.
